The Deputy Attorney General, Mwesigwa Rukutana has said he will not apologise to anyone for what has been perceived as arrogance while appearing before Justice Catherine Bamugemereire on Wednesday.
Rukutana was thrown out of the Commission of Land Inquiry by Bamugemereire for allegedly ‘disrespecting and failing to provide clarity how Government arrived at Shs24 billion meant to compensate Dr Muhammad Kasasa’ over Mutungo land.’
Rukutana is also accused of giving wrong legal opinion in the media, well knowing that the facts as he claimed, are not corroborated with what the Commission has unearthed through various testimonies from complainants and locus in quo visits to the land under contention.
On Wednesday, Rukutana told Bamugemereire; “Look my position is very clear. As long as I am respected, I will be respectful. If I am not respected I will not respect anybody.”
This forced Bamugemereire to throw out the Deputy Attorney General.
“The appointing authority will find a body that the learned attorney general respects enough to compete with. We might actually have to rethink our methods but as of now, this interview is over, you are dismissed and discharged. Please get out of here,” she ordered.
But in response to someone on ‘Ntugamo Development Forum WhatsApp group’ who had had questioned what it would cost him to talk politely, the Deputy Attorney General said, “I want to assure you and everyone that whatever I said was intentional and had a historic perspective that I will not share here. All I assure you is that I am not apologising to you or anybody.”
Rukutana added: It’s your prerogative to interpret the incident the way you want but personally I am so happy and satisfied. My only regret is that I never exhausted myself.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Rukutana told journalists, “I don’t give a damn. Let her tell the President, she can even tell God.”
