Improving the quality of the city road network and easing traffic flow in Kampala are among Eng. Andrew Kitaka’s priorities to make the capital city ‘great again’.
On Wednesday, February 19, the acting Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) took a two-hour tour around the city to check on the progress of roads, pavements, drainage channels, markets and pedestrian walk ways that are under rehabilitation/construction.
“We are removing the old walking shrubs to replace them with pavers to provide a better walking experience for pedestrians,” Kitaka told journalists.
The roads in question under rehabilitation are Nile Avenue, Kimathi Avenue, Binayisa Road in Mulago, Nanfumbi Road in Kikoni, and Namirembe Road which is currently undertaking the implementation of a pilot Non-Motorized Transport with an objective of providing dedicated facilities for non-motorized mobility in an emblematic section of the city.
Eng. Kitaka is not only having eyes set on the roads but also setting up a new market for traders in Kasubi, which will sit on roughly two acres of land.
The land has already been graded as they await for the highest bidder to take on the contract.
