Police have blocked the Democratic Party (DP)-Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) reunion – Busoga Chapter – that was supposed to take place at Jinja Rugby Grounds.
The Busoga chapter is part of the DP’s caravan is supposed cover 20 sub-regions of Uganda.
The party president Norbert Mao was also arrested and taken to Jinja Central Police Station.
“Sad day for democracy! The police has blocked the #DPREUNION in Jinja today. Heavy deployment awaited at 8am at the Jinja Rugby Grounds,” Mao said in a tweet.
Adding, “When I protested the illegality of their actions and demanded to see the RPC, I was simply bundled into a saloon car and taken to CPS.”
According to reports reaching our desk, police deployed as early as 7:00am at the Rugby grounds.
Kiira regional Police Spokesperson, Dianah Nandaula, said the opposition did not follow the right guidelines and the reunion was not to take place.
