Cyprian Kikuni Bamwoze, the retired Bishop of Busoga Diocese has died early on Monday morning at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Mulago after a long battle with leukaemia.
His death was confirmed by Bukedi Diocese Bishop Samuel George Egesa.
Bamwoze, who was consecrated in 1972 as Busoga’s pioneer bishop and retired in 1998, has been fighting for his life since 2015.
He retired in 1998 aged 65 and was succeeded by Dr Michael Kyomya.
“Christians in Busoga Diocese, Uganda and the world woke up to the sad news that Bishop Bamwoze has left us but the good news is that he went to be with the lord. The retired and pioneer Bishop of Busoga Diocese was an Innovative leader. He established a number of health facilities in hard-to-reach areas under his Family Life Education Programme, an arm of Busoga Diocese, which he oversaw,” Pastor Andrew Paul Muwanguzi eulogized.
