Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) founding member Freddie Ssekitto, has applauded the association’s move to rebrand, in what he described as ‘long overdue’ because the generations had changed.
He made the comments at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala during the monthly USPA meeting where the best sports personalities of the month were honoured.
At the same event, teenage long distance runner Joshua Kiplimo was voted the best personality for the month of January. Kiplimo came up against chess players Maria Nakanyike and Peninah Nakabo.
Kiplimo won gold medals at the IAAF world cross country summit meetings in Italy and Seville in Spain. Nakanyike emerged second best at the Africa Junior Chess championships in Bwebajja while Nakabo also won silver at the African Chess open in Namibia.
At the same meeting, Uspa joined the rest of the football fraternity to condemn the acts of hooliganism especially towards journalists and other officials. This came after Villa fans attacked Vipers’ media officer Abdu Wasike and Bukedde’s Muzamir Mayiga.
