Grace Msalame, a Kenyan media personality wants the Junior Minister of Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda to pay her for using her picture in the promotion of Miss Curvy Uganda without her consent.
On February 5, 2019, Mr Kiwanda surprised Ugandans when he launched ‘Miss Curvy Uganda 2019’ beauty contest saying it is one of the Ugandan tourist attractions.
Kiwanda was reported in the media saying at Mestil hotel that Uganda was endowed with nice looking women who can be used to promote tourism.
But in the bid to promote Uganda’s curvy women, the beauty contest organisers had used a picture of a curved Kenyan woman ‘Grace Msalame’ as their official cover girl without her consent.
When Msalame got the news, she said that she doesn’t endorse or agree with such message that her image has been branded. She said Miss Curvy concept was a sign of disrespect to women.
“I take great exception to the act that my image and likeness are being used to propagate, disseminate and encourage the objectification of women’s bodies as tourist attraction, I reject any association to me that has been unlawful created by Miss Curvy Uganda,” said Msalame.
She asserts that her image and likeness have been used in promotional material for a pageant without her permission, and in promotion of something she doesn’t believe in.
“Miss Curvy Uganda’s deliberate and calculated use of my image and likeness to promote and encourage the violation of women’s bodies has defamed my character and reputation, damaged a brand I have worked for many years to establish and subjected me to undeserved cyber bully”, she noted.
Msalame joins the long list of people who have came out to trash the ideology of Miss Curvy Uganda like Ministers, human rights Activists, Pastors and Sheikhs.
