Police in Kisoro district is investigating circumstances under which the body of man, said to be in his 20s, was found tied and strangled in a river.
The deceased was discovered on Tuesday, January 22 at around 4pm at Murehe village, Bubuye parish, Nyundo Sub-county in Kisoro district.
A body was discovered in the waters of lake Murehe by two fishermen identified as Kabagambe Emmanuel and Hatanga Xavier who had gone to cast their fishnets.
The two informed the Gomborora Internal Security officer, Hakizimana Wickliffe who in turn informed police.
Police visited the scene and the body was retrieved from the waters. A rope was found tied around the neck and hands tied behind.
According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate, it is suspected the deceased was murdered before being dumped in the lake by unknown persons.
The body was later taken to Kisoro hospital for postmortem.
“Investigations are underway at Kisoro police station under file number SD 62/22/01/2019,” Maate said.
