The International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) Uganda Chapter head, Eunice Nankwanga Kasirye and the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga have on Monday discussed gender equity in the media.
The meeting took place at the Speaker’s office at Parliament in Kampala.
Kadaga commended IAWRT for its determination to fight negative media portrayal of women through a deliberate move of creating a sustainable pool of Media Gender mainstreaming ambassadors via mentorship.
She pledged to work hand in hand with IAWRT to trumpet the positive contributions of Women beginning with Women parliamentarians.
Nankwanga briefed the Speaker on the need to create a data base of female media practitioners as well as female News sources to sustainability and collectively uplift the plight of a woman at all levels.
“With a gender sensitive media, IAWRT is optimistic that all other efforts to create equity in all sectors will effortlessly be achieved,” she said.
Both parties also agreed to hold subsequent engagements to ensure progressive efforts in achieving gender equity in the media.
