Rubaga North Member of Parliament Moses Kasibante, has told the Speaker of Parliament, Rebbeca Kadaga that the current Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises will never complete the probe into the central bank.
In an interview with Watchdog Uganda on Monday, Kasibante said Cosase has a lot of pending investigations which are also very crucial and that the Speaker’s demand that the committee continues with work will not benefit Abdul Katuntu’s committee but rather tarnishing his reputation.
“Katuntu and his team, whatever they have not completed will be completed by the incoming committee. Why should the Speaker stick on just one report yet there over eight pending reports?” Kasibante asked.
Katuntu is the Bugweri County MP.
According to Kasibante, some of the pending reports on investigations into Uganda Broadcast Cooperation, National Agricultural Advisory Services (Naads) National Medical Stores and Rural Electrification Agency have not been brought before the Parliament.
“If the Speaker wants Katuntu to finish the work he begun, then she would have also looked for the eight pending reports which require less efforts than the BOU probe which is just ongoing,” added Kasibante, the vice chairperson of the new Cosase that was expected to assume office on January 13.
It is supposed to be led by Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe South MP.
However, Speaker Kadaga insisted that Katuntu’s completes the probe into BoU and hand over reports.
According to Kasibante, Katuntu also found a lot of unfinished businesses in the office.
“There is no office that hands over when every assignment is done. But Kadaga wants to force it.
However, Ofwono Opondo, the government spokesman said when the Speaker bended the laws in favor of the rebel MPs, opposition leadership didn’t see it as an act against the laws but when at this time they claim that is acting against the laws.
