The woman who killed a UPDF soldier at Gadaffi Garrison in Jinja in the wee hours of Boxing Day after spending a good time together in the day, has been identified.
Rehema Namusoke, a prostitute stabbed Warrant Officer II Vincent Mujuni to death in her rented room which partly also serves as a drinking pub at Rest Corner Rubaga, about 250 meters from the quarter guard of Gadaffi.
Nobody knows how the tragedy started but witnesses say the couple has been seen together for some good months and that on the fateful day they spent most of the day in different drinking places.
It’s reported the two developed a misunderstanding which erupted into the fight in the night forcing the woman to use a kitchen knife to stab the man in self defense.
“The man punched me several times and I had to defend myself because I feared he was going to harm me. I did not intend to kill him,” the seemingly remorseful Namusoke said in her statements at the Jinja CPS where she is being held.
On sensing danger, Namusoke rushed to the quarter guard to report the incident which prompted the leadership of the barracks to send a vehicle to take the body to the Jinja Hospital mortuary.
Jinja DPC Vincent Irama has confirmed the incident saying the suspected killer reported herself to the police who have now launched investigations into the matter.
“She is in our custody even the killer knife was recovered so our officers are on the ground trying to gather clues and the suspect will be taken to the court to be charged accordingly,” Irama said.
The Jinja UPDF Zonal PRO Lt Amos Nsamba regretted the incident saying the body of the deceased has been taken for burial at his ancestral home in western Uganda.
