A Roman philosopher known as Plautus one time wrote, “A woman without paint is like food without salt.”
That is why many women today will spend countless hours trying to beautify themselves with makeup.
Female students at Bugema University will, however, spend the said hours trying to read. This after the Seventh Day Adventist church founded institution banned all female beautifying accessories off the campus premises.
On December 12, the University management wrote a circular to all female students Bugema University, both boarders and day scholars, warning them that they were not allowed to wear miniskirts, earrings, necklaces, bangles, sleeveless and open tops, trousers and dresses above knee line. Lipstick and coloured nails were also banned.
“No student should come back to campus with the above mentioned personal effects next semester. Culprits will face the University Disciplinary Committee for serious action,” the circular warns.
No reason was given for the ban although some sources say the male students say dangling earrings and red lips were to blame for their failure.
Founded in 1948, the University is situated in Luwero with a branch in Kampala.
