The seat supposed to be occupied by opposition Forum for Democratic Change president at the Inter Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) summit today has been conspicuously left vacant. This after the party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi decided to boycott the the first ever IPOD summit at the Speke Resort Munyonyo.
FDC members also shunned the summit.
Other party presidents – Asuman Basalirwa for JEEMA, Norbert Mao for Democratic Party, Jimmy Akena for Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Yoweri Museveni for National Resistance Movement (NRM) – are in attendance.
At the meeting, the NRM secretary general Justine Lumumba said that although there is multiparty system in Uganda, there is still a big gap in the leadership of central government to depict multiparty system.
She noted the vacuum needs to be filled.
Lumumba also asked political parties to stop the pointing finger attitude while in the dialogue of such kind. She has also said Uganda needs to build a mechanism to reduce on number of independents.
