Musician Bobi Wine regards Gulu as his second home. This after he spent a couple of days at Gulu Prison following the Arua by-election fracas that saw President Museveni’s convoy stoned and one of cars destroyed.
Bobi, who was in Arua then to canvass support for candidate Kasiano Wadri.
During the October court session, the musician-turned- artiste was ordered to return to Gulu on December 3. This is one of the reasons he organized a show – Kyarenga Gulu – on Sunday, December 2, to thank this fans in the northern region district of supporting and standing by him in his troubled times.
But that did not happen as police, acting on orders from above blocked the show.
Bobi Wine took to social media to cry foul.
“So yet again, our concert in Gulu has been blocked by the police! We wrote to them three weeks ago informing them of the show and requested them for security. We compiled with all the laws and invested a lot of resources preparing for the show. Today, the police showed up at the venue cutting all banners and other advertising material without giving any explanation,” he said.
“Police patrol vehicles have been moving around Gulu town, removing all the banners and posters! The promoters have been trying to call all responsible officers, and all they say is that they have ‘orders from above’ not to let me perform.”
Bobi Wine then assured fans that he ‘was looking forward to having a good time with you tonight’.
“Very soon it will be possible. I know that God willing, one day, we shall free ourselves from this mess and be able to enjoy ourselves in the new Uganda,” he promised.
His court case on Monday was adjourned to December 18.
