Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu is expected to return to Gulu Magistrate’s court today.
Kyagulanyi and 33 others are accused of treason.
On August 13 during the Arua Municipality By-election campaigns, Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine together with MPs Kassiano Wadri (Arua Municipality), Gerard Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality) and Paul Mwiru (Jinja East) and others according to the prosecution allegedly threw stones at the President’s convoy, smashing a hind windscreen of one of the cars hence threatening President’s life. This after Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shoot dead at Hotel Pacific in the parking yard.
On October 1, Bobi Wine and group appeared before Gulu Magistrates court to answer treason charges. Case was adjourned to December 3.
According to lawyer Asuman Basalirwa, Bobi Wine and group are expected to appear before Magistrate Isaac Imoran Kintu for the mention of their case, since Magistrate Yunus Ndiwalana who was handling their case was transferred to Iganga District in October. He also demanded security officers who arrested them will appear to present the confiscated items.
“The magistrate is expected to read out all names of the accused persons to determine their presence or absence and the state prosecutor is expected to give a preamble about the investigation as police explains the whereabouts of my clients’ properties they confiscated,” said Basalirwa.
Basaliwa said the security officers confiscated a lot of things from group such as money, mobile phones, laptops and cars. However, Basalirwa said that, officers from Special Forces Command were using the confiscated phones to truck the friends of the accused which is against the law.
Another lawmaker, Mityana Municipality’s Francis Zaake is yet to appear on the charge sheet since his case is still before police.
In other news, as an appreciation package to the people of Gulu, Bobi Wine was supposed to perform on Sunday at Gulu before going to court. Unfortunately police halted the Kyarenga Concert in Gulu.
