Bank of Uganda governor Emmanuel Mutebile has apologised before the Parliamentary Committee, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) over leaked confidential documents. The document addressed to Cosase chairperson Abdu Katuntu appeared on social media, well before he received it.
Mutebile’s apology came after Katuntu blamed Bank of Uganda senior officials for not respecting the mutual agreement which was reached between Cosase and the central bank officials. Katuntu noted that he was shocked to see the said document on social media.
“I have not officially received any letter from the governor of the central bank but there is a confidential document addressed to me by Bank of Uganda governor in the media. It is very embarrassing that you wrote a letter to me which was confidential but you decided to leak it to social media before I receive it,” said Katuntu thundered.
Mutebile, in response, said he had formed a commission of inquiry to find out who leaked the document to social media.
“I am very sorry about this crucial matter. It came to my attention before I came here after seeing this document on social media. Yes, I signed this letter to you although the appropriate time to reach you was not yet due,” said Mutebile.
Katuntu wondered how Bank of Uganda official handle issues at hand.
“I don’t know what is going on in Bank of Uganda. I thought in the beginning we are dealing with serious officials and everything confidential would be treated confidential. Then how do you let a confidential letter be released on social media?” asked Katuntu.
Mutebile’s responded by assuring the committee that he was equally shocked with this occurrence.
“However, let us wait for the outcome of the investigations,” Mutebile noted.
