The Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) is still stranded with the unidentified body of a rally fan at Mulago hospital mortuary.
This, according to FMU president Dusman Okee during a press briefing at the MTN Arena, Lugogo on Monday. The presser was intended to update the public about the accident during a fundraising sprint at Busiika on Sunday after a rally car crashed into fans.
One person died instantly and nine were injured and rushed to Mulago, Nsambya hospitals as well as Kasana Luwero health centre.
According to Okee, the reason why the body is yet to be identified or claimed is because it did not have any sort of identification.
“We suspect that he was robbed clean either before or after the accident,” Okee said, before calling upon the general public to go to Mulago hospital mortuary to identify the corpse.
“It is very sad to steal what you are not going to use. Imagine stealing a dead man’s identification card in the name of trying to help. This is very bad,” Okee cautioned.
He went ahead to explain that the main cause of accidents is drunk, uncontrollable fans.
“Very many people would not have been affected by this accident. But because they were too near the racing zone, this had to affect them negatively,” noted Okee.
He also hinted on a video making rounds on social media of a red car knocking fans ‘as an old one that happened almost three years ago.’
