The Rotary Club of Kampala north has announced plans to construct a Shs600 million skills school for the youth.
According to the president of the Club, Stephen Ssendi, the school is dedicated to the memory of Sam F. Awori, a Rotary International president-elect who died unexpectedly on July 13, 2017.
Construction will commence next year.
Ssendi, who was addressing the press in Kampala on Wednesday, said as rotary, they realised that many youth need a mindset change to enable them live a better tomorrow.
“Most of today’s youth only think of looking for jobs after school. Some are unemployed while others luck the needed experience. This is the time to help them build a better career,” Ssendi noted.
He added that in order to help such people, there is a need for a skills mindset school where the youths shall pay an affordable fee.
It is on this note that he called upon everyone to join the Rotary in a music, dance and drama session at Serena Hotel Kampala on December 8 in a bid to fundraise funds for the school.
“We have already bought 40 acres of land where the school shall be constructed,” he said.
Rotary has also opened up a partnership with Uganda Christian University where the institution will start teaching its students on the best methods of managing the world after university.
When completed in 2021, the ‘Sam Awori Rotary Vijana Poa Village’ will enroll 200 students although the maximum number annually shall be 2000.
