After winning the 2018 East Africa Business Leader Award in October, property mogul Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has today organized a thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate the achievement.
The event took place at Kabira Country Club in Kampala.
Among the people who have received the similar awards include President Yoweri Museveni, Tanzania ex-President Jakaya Kikwete, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya , and President Edgar Lungu of Zambia.
Addressing his guests, the Ruparelia Group founder and chairman thanked the East Africa Book of Records for recognizing his business prosperity in the East Africa region.
“I am extremely humbled and totally astonished to have been selected by the East Africa Book of Records as the East African Business leader 2018-I sincerely thank the committee for presenting me and my family with this pleasant surprise,” said Dr. Sudhir.
Adding, “When I was informed, completely out of the blue, that I have been selected for the award, it got me thinking and reflecting upon what I have done to deserve this prestigious accolade – and I suppose I should take at least some of the credit for this achievement but more importantly it made me realize that there are many other players without whose support and contribution over the years, I would not be where I am today,”
Dr. Sudhir further dedicated his award to President Yoweri Museveni and his NRM government saying if they didn’t create an enabling environment and formulating liberal economic policies that enable entrepreneur like him to invest in Uganda, he would still struggle to achieve business success.
He also lauded his wife Jyotsna and children Meera, Sheena and Rajiv for the support and unwavering commitment towards him.
“I wish to also dedicate this award to my lovely wife Jyotsna and my children Meera, Sheena and Rajiv and my family in general who have not only been my inspiration but also for their trust and unwavering commitment by enduring my hardwork and often tense moodand for being on my side through all the trials and tribulations which are but inevitable on this arduous journey,” Dr. Sudhir disclosed.
“It’s my wish and desire that this award will be an aspiration to the young turks such as Rajiv and his contemporaries to continue on this path and eventually someone will recognize your contributions in developing this wonderful country,” he added.
The businessman also thanked his business associates, friends and advisors for their support, guidance and encouragement throughout his journey.
The annual Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia lecture will be soon launched where he will give inspiration to over 10,000 East African youth annually.
