Members of Parliament on the select committee investigating sexual violence in institutions of learning have said school administrators, pupils and students are all responsible for perpetrating the vice.
In an interim report to parliament on Thursday, Robina Rwakoojo, Gomba West MP also Chairperson of the committee revealed that sexual violence exists at all levels of learning in Uganda.
“The perpetrators include the Deans of universities, Head teachers, teachers, students and pupils,” Rwakoojo said.
The committee was constituted following a motion by Anna Adeke, the National Female Youth representative, urging the government to inquire into allegations of sexual harassment in educational institutions in Uganda.
The Committee however, requested for more time to continue with their investigations citing that their fact finding visits across all educational institutions in Uganda cannot not be achieved within the already stipulated time frame.
The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga lauded members on the committee for the progress so far and granted them extra time so that they can provide a conclusive report.
“The chair has explained her problem; they have covered half the country and they require to go to the rest of the country. We give them the authority to go till mid-January,” said Kadaga.
