The president of the Uganda Boxing Federation, Moses Muhangi, has traveled to Moscow for the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Congress.
Muhangi is one of the members from the African Confederation Boxing Championships – AFBC – who were nominated for an Executive Member position.
The Congress is slated for November 2-3, 2018. During the Congress, a team headed by AIBA’s chairman of ethic commission, Schmid Jost together with other committee members, will make sure that the elections go smoothly.
In remarks during an interview in Lugogo before setting off, Muhangi said this is going to be a very good chance for Ugandan boxers in terms of representation.
“I was nominated to be an executive member of AIBA and I believe with the rate at which our boxers are performing, Uganda needs a bigger post than the African continent,” said Muhangi
In his words, Muhangi urged the Ugandan boxers to work harder since through their talent, the young generation is boosted to join the sport.
The president added that if all goes well after the elections, he wants to look for good, cheaper equipment to be used by clubs.
“If our local clubs can pay for these equipment in installments, then I believe it will be so great. We want our clubs to get everything in the best way,” Muhangi added.
In the AIBA executive committee that took place on August 31, 2018 in Moscow, all the members of the Executive Committee were united in carrying the decisions forward. They were pleased by the transparency and openness in which the meeting was carried out something that is expected to continue in the congress.
