The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has warned members of the public to desist from tampering with electrical installations.
The revelation was made by Charlotte Kyohairwe, ERA prosecutor after the adjournment of ‘safety of cables and electrical installation’ case suspects before Buganda Road Court, Kampala. These included Apollo Niweshaba, 29, Andrew Kyandara, 40 and Barnabas Baligye 32, who are currently remanded to Luzira Prison.
Justice Gladys Kamasanyu adjourned the case to November 19.
Kyohairwe said they have already arrested, detained and will continue to prosecute people who steal cables onto transmission lines and temper with electrical installations to ensure effective service delivery.
“We shall battle with whoever steals these equipments due to the fact that this is tax payers money,” Kyoheirwe added
She explained that many people have lost their lives and properties as result of this habit which wastes tax payers’ money in an effort to reinstall the destroyed material.
It is on this note that she urged the public to always contact with the line authorities before further as a measure to ease them executive their work effectively.
