The Kenyan national under 19 LaCrosse women’s team over the weekend lifted the U-19 East African Invitational Tournament after trouncing Maroons two – nil. Canaan High School beat Kawanda High School 4 – nil to win bronze.
The winning teams will on Wednesday meet for an encounter to establish the best team to represent the region in the July 2019 World Cup games to be held in Canada.
Four teams including the Kenyan national team, Maroons, Kawanda SS and Canaan HS participated in the hotly contested matches in the relatively new game in the East African region.

La Crosse trainers join spectators to view the Sunday matches

The Kenyan contingent of 20 players and four technical people was led by the national coach Storm Alison Trentham, who expressed her team’s yearning to participate in the 2019 Canada world cup games.

She said the game has been played in Uganda for eight years, compared to Kenya’s five years.

“Kenya was however, putting up a better show because of more enthusiasm by the training team,” Trentham said.
The national men’s team trainer Peter Ginnegar said his team participated in last Summer games in Israel where they emerged in 38th out of the 48 participating teams.
Giving a forecast of the Wednesday encounter between the Kenyan and Ugandan winning teams to be held at the same venue, Ugandan women’s coach Dorothy Nakato predicted a win for her team, saying that they have mastered their opponents’ tactics.
Giving a history of La Crosse game, Kenya assistant National Coach Oscar Wodero said it originated in America and become more popular in Canada. He said the day’s activities were sponsored by DBA Sport of the UK.
