Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi’s bodyguard Edward Sebuufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe has been granted a bail by the Gulu Magistrate court after almost 52 days in detention.
Mutwe was grabbed by state operatives in August around Ssemakokiro Plaza and charged with treason soon after a Presidential car was stoned during by-elections campaigns. His boss and 33 others were also arrested for being responsible for the damage.
Mr Mutwe and his co accused Musa Ssenyange, a machine operator were granted bail by the Gulu High Court Judge Justine Stephen Mubiru on Tuesday morning. He was represented by lawyers Assuman Basalirwa, Henry Kilama and Tonny Kitarra. Basalilwa is also Bugiri Municipality MP.
Justice Mubiru granted a non cash bail of Shs 5 million each to the accused and Shs 10 million noncash bail to their sureties.
He is expected to appear before the same court on December 3 2018.
Shortly after release, Mutwe said he would not stop fighting for freedom.
“Whatever is being done is just intimidation to stop us from attaining freedom. As a freedom fighter, I will continue from where I stopped. There are other things that the team could have been able to do without me, but I am out and will continue from there,” he said.
