Sembabule Woman Member of Parliament Anifa Bangirana Kawooya has revealed that she will not stand again as area legislator come 2021.
She said it’s high time she retired from politics to concentrate on other projects.
The NRM loyal cadre has been MP since 2001.
Over the years has managed to maintain the support of the mainstream NRM leadership which came in handy when the Supreme Court annulled her 2006 election on grounds of electoral malpractices.
Not only did her supporters ensure that there was no party primary conducted, she got the backing of the NRM Chairman and Secretary General, among others, after being declared the ruling party’s flag-bearer.
In fact, Kawooya herself attributed her victory to her loyalty to the NRM.
Prior to becoming MP, Kawooya served as Speaker, Sembabule District Council (1998-2001) and Deputy RDC Rakai District (2001).
Before that, Kawooya worked as Senior Sales Executive for Zambia Airways (1990-1993) and Marketing Officer Uganda Airlines (1980-1990).
