Government to start using mobile money and airtime sellers to curb crimes in the country.
Speaking during the first day of the tax appreciation week organized by Uganda Revenue Authority at Kololo air strip on the Kampala suburb, the permanent Secretary in the ministry of ICT Mr. Vincent Bagiire waiswa revealed that they are intending to go to the airtime vendors to ask them about the details of the people to whom they sell airtime to and commit crimes using the phones.
Bagiire also revealed that they have so far covered 12000 metres of fibre optics in their ongoing campaign of reaching data to all parts of the country.
Again Bagiire added that the national broadband policy was passed by Parliament will help to curb the duplication their services which he says has contributed to the hiking of Data bundles in the country.
‘’The issue of expensive Data bundles has come about as a result of every operator constructing their own infrastructures and we are are mandated by parliament to fight the duplication which is causing the expensive data bundles,’’said Bagiire.
In the same way Bagiire revealed that on the 32billion budget given to the ministry of ICT 6 billions were used to construct the ICT hub which is located at Nakawa to enable the ICT specialists and technicians to get the working space.
The tax appreciation week organized by Uganda’s tax body Uganda revenue authority in kampala which started today will go take three days until 28th of this month.
