Police has come out to refute claims that it planted ASP Kentaro Pamella to spy on Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine from US to Entebbe.
According to Police, Pamella was nominated by the Judiciary to go for a course in Mombasa Kenya that was scheduled from 17th to 19th September 2018 and the return ticket was for 20th September 2018, the day that Bobi Wine was also coming back so the due boarding the same plane was a coincidence.
Police also revealed that Pamella has been providing security to Bobi Wine whenever he has events/shows at his One Love Beach Busabala, and they know each other.
“Police cannot deploy anybody who is already exposed in uniform to do undercover operation, more so someone who is already known to the target as a Police Officer,” Police said in a statement.
“It’s therefore false to allege that the officer was on a spying mission. Covert operations are not done the way social media is trying to portray,” it added.
Pamella came under spotlight after Henry Kakensa, a renowned social media blogger posted on his Facebook page a photo of Bobi Wine while on Kenya Airways and besides him, was Pamella, who was clad in a civilian attire.
He alleged that Pamella was assigned by her bosses to spy on Bobi Wine.
Earlier today Pamella also said;
“It’s quite absurd that a lot of negativity is being spread about me having been planted as a spy on Hon Kyagulanyi .Bobi and I have been friends from way back and he knows that I am a police officer. On Thursday I met him at JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport). I was from traveling from Mombasa and him from America. I didn’t travel to the US as alleged. Bobi Wine was the first to see me at the cafeteria and asked me to join him at the table with his brother called Dax. We chatted for close to two hours while waiting for our flight to Entebbe. On the plane, he (Bobi) sat next to Hon Winnie Kizza and he asked that I sit across on the other side of the aisle near him.”
Apparently Pamella serves in the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services.
She commanded counter terrorism police officers who stopped journalists from accessing the police headquarters in Naguru on April 20 to cover the judgment of former Old Kampala and Buyende DPC, the late Muhammad Kirumira in the police disciplinary tribunal.
