Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Executive Director Allen Kagina has urged her employees to stay calm and committed to their assignment following government’s decision to dissolve the authority.
On Monday cabinet resolved to disband or merge a number of agencies such as UNRA and transformed them into departments under respective line ministries.
Writing to UNRA staff, Kagina said the objective of merging the agencies is to streamline public administration and supervision as well as reduce public expenditure.
She noted that she believes that government will communicate the timing and implementation timelines and that she expects that it will not happen in a short run because many institutions that were affected were set up by Acts of Parliament and can only be repealed by another Act.
Meanwhile, she urged the authority’s employees to remain calm and committed to their assignments and work as hard as they have been doing.
