Police in Kabale has recovered eight old guns from under ground in Igabiro cell Mwanjari ward Southern division of Kabale municipality.
The Two SMGs and six SARs plus fifteen SMG empty magazines were recovered from the late James Karambuzi’s home compound when the engineers were digging a house foundation.
The first four guns and four magazines were recovered on Sunday 26/08/2018 afternoon and four others plus eleven empty magazines in the afternoon of Tuesday 28/08/18.
According to the Kigezi region Police spokesperson Elly maate, the recovered guns must have been put long time ago because the were rusty on the outlook.
” Our ballistic experts will determine whether they can discharge or otherwise” Maate said.
The late Karambuzi was a FRONASA fighter and was assassinated by the then Uganda president field marshal Idi Amin in 1976 in Kabale stadium.
It’s alleged that Amin got some intelligence which pinned Karambuzi and others, that they were plotting to overthrow him.
Elly Maate commended the chairperson local council one of Igabiro cell, Mr Athanasius Mujasi and the site engineer Mr Victor Byaruhanga who is the district engineer Kabale for their quick reporting to police who immediately swung in action to get them.
“I want to ask our people to always cooperate with security agencies to report such dangerous weapons or items in the hands of suspicious characters so that are retrieved before causing any harm to the community” Maate said .
This case has been registered at Kabale police station under file number SD 62/28/08/2018.
