Ugandans continue to show their displeasure with the continued detention of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi who is incarcerated at Makindye Military Baracks.
Protests broke out from Kisekka Market, spreading out to areas of Namirembe Road, Ben Kiwanuka Street, Kikuubo, Sebaana Road, Old and New Taxi Park, Nakivubo Ham Shopping Complex, and Kisenyi Owino Market among others as protestors engaged into running battles with anti riot police. #FreeBobiWine protests started out around Kampala Road near E-tower and Kisekka markets, according to reports, and fast spread to Nakivubo, New Park, old taxi park, Bombo Road, Katwe, Nateete, Ndeeba, Ku Bbiri, Kalerwe and Kireka.
Police shot live bullets in air at Kisekka market protestors who are demanding the release of MP Kyagulanyi better known as Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine was arrested in Arua, and beaten to pulp, before he was airlifted to Gulu military barracks from where he was read charges of treason and possession of arms, while half head. He was again airlifted to Kampala, from where he was detained in the Military barracks, where he is receiving treatment.
Reports flew around over the weekend that his kidneys were damaged, but, President Museveni refuted the allegation in the third write up since Arua by election went to Mr Kassiano Wadri, who is also under lock at Gulu prison.
Mr Museveni also said Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake who is battling for his life at Lubaga hospital, escaped from police custody, and was being wanted by authority. Commentators have however laughed off Mr Museveni’s allegations, as Zaake in his condition could not even walk five steps, let alone come by himself from Arua or Gulu to take himself to a Kampala hospital.
Since Bobi’s detention, protests have broken out in Kamwokya, Mukono, Kabalagala, Kisekka Market, Ntinda, Mityana and Makindye, and it seems they will not come to an end until the popular musician turned politicians leaves jail.
Bobi Wine, several MP and campaigners of Mr Wadri were rounded up in Arua after an alleged stoning of Mr Museveni’s convoy who was leaving for Arua airfield after campaigning for his candidate Nusura Tiperu. That Monday evening turned bloody as Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin was shot dead, and MPs allied to Wadri’s campaign including Paul Mwiru of Jinja West, Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo municipality, former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke, Kassiano Wadri, Arua Municipality MP elect, among others were rounded up, beaten thoroughly before being paraded in a Gulu court.
