Regional police commander for West Nile Johnson Musinguzi and police spokesman Kayima Emiliano have separately confirmed that police shot dead the driver of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyadondo aka Bobi Wine in Arua.
Police however add that the bullet that hit the 26 year old father of three, was a “stray bullet”. The narrative is certainly to be dismissed by the general population who believe the killing was aforethought since there was no scuffle at his death scene.
It is alleged that a policeman whose identity has not been revealed yet shot dead Yasin Kawoya who was sitting in the co-driver’s seat at the time he met his end.
The security officers had rounded up Pacific hotel where Bobi Wine was booked in, it is alleged the security were hunting for Bobi Wine, who is under arrest since last night, and stands accused of inciting violence against the convoy of President Museveni.
The Monday night operation also left several politicians in detention including candidate Kasiano Wadri, who was arrested alongside MPs Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality), Paul Mwiru (Jinja West), Gerald Karuhanga (Ntugamo municipality), Michael Mabikke (ex Makindye East) etc.
Police has been condemned for its highhandedness but the force blames the opposition leaders for kicking off the havoc, which left two dead, several injured and many in prisons.
The Arua Municipality by election is expected to take place on Wednesday. The new MP will replace Abiriga Ibrahim who was gunned down in June near his home in Kawanda, Wakiso district.
