On Saturday 28th July 2018, Dr. Lucy’s Medical Center in conjunction with the NeoGenesis Fertility Center conducted a free medical camp in Nakasajja trading center, Gayaza, Wakiso district.
This medical camp offered a number of free medical services to the people of Nakasajja and the surrounding areas. Services offered included free HIV testing, free Hepatitis screening, malaria and typhoid testing, health education, free family planning services, testing and free treatment for kids, among so many other services.
Dr. Lucy Amanio, the owner of Dr. Lucy’s Medical Center and the brains behind this health camp, on why she decided to hold this free medical camp said, “I realized the need for the people of Nakasajja and the surrounding areas to have quality health services. Some people have spent years with an illness that is treatable, and yet no one has ever been able to diagnose it. They have never seen a doctor, and so we decided to put a camp so that specialists can see the under-served people that cannot afford specialized treatment and checkup.”
Dr. Mark Muyingo of NeoGenesis reached out to Dr. Lucy’s clinic to take part in this free medical camp as a way of giving back to society (corporate social responsibility). He said, “I feel a lot for the women, there are a lot of women issues, and a specialist gynecologist has never seen most of these patients, so we decided to offer free gynecology and family planning services to them.”
African Empowerment Hub also came on board for this great cause and offered free Afri-pads (re-usable sanitary pads) and menstrual hygiene management education for girls from 11 to 18 years of age.
This medical camp was received with much enthusiasm from the people of Nakasajja, and because of this, Dr. Lucy Amanio plans on making this an annual event. She wants to make a change in her community and also give people a chance to be seen by specialists.
