Buganda Kingdom Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has on Wednesday met President Museveni at State House.
Kabaka Mutebi who celebrated 25 years since his coronation, also introduced Ashanti King, Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II to President Museveni who was donning in Ghanaian traditional dress.
Museveni twitter handle later posted, “Ashanti King, Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, and Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi paid a courtesy call on me at State House Entebbe. I congratulate Kabaka Mutebi on his 25th coronation anniversary where Asantehene was a special guest.”
Mr Museveni missed Kabaka’s fete on Tuesday in Mengo, since he was attending the BRICs Summit in South Africa. He returned on Wednesday.
Mr Museveni prides in reinstating monarchs in the 1990s, and July 31, 1993, he beamed with a big smile as Prince Ronald Muwenda Mutebi was being crowned Kabaka of Buganda at Naggalabi.
The central government under Museveni has however had a sometimes rocky relationship with Mengo, with each side accusing the other of malice and ill will.
However the Ugandan leader said lauded traditional leaders for “preserving customs and identities of people”.
“As governments are busy focusing on roads and other such infrastructure developments, cultural leaders play the important role of preserving customs and the identities of the people. I welcome the Ashanti King to Uganda and wish him a fruitful stay here,” he said.
