Seventeen people have died while many others are injured in a motor accident that occurred on monday morning at Kagano village in Kanaba Sub County, Kisoro district along Kabale-Kisoro road.
The accident occurred when an ISUZU ELF vehicle registration number UAW 739M that was carrying sacks of Irish Potatoes, Crates of Soda and Beer, and traders failed to negotiate a sharp corner in Kanaba hills and hit guard rails.
Deus Tumuranze, one of the survivors says that the vehicle was coming from Mengo in Kaara parish in Muko sub county, Rubanda district heading to Kisoro daily market in Kisoro Municipality. Tumuranze says that when the vehicle hit guard rails, all the traders who were spitted on top of the goods feel down.
Tumuranze says that all the dead were killed by the guard rails and other goods which were in the vehicle since the vehicle remained standing. Tumuranze says that among the dead are the driver and owner of the vehicle only identified as Bikwasi, a businessman from Kaara in Muko Sub County. He says that the injured are being rushed to Kisoro hospital.
John Baptist Twinomugisha, an Ambulance attendant at Kisoro hospital, is one of the people who were helping to transport the injured to Kisoro hospital and the nearby health facilities, with the police. He identified some two of the injured he had transported to the hospital as Brenda Kemigisha from Muyebe in Buhara sub county of Kabale district and Enock Namara from Kaara parish in Muko Sub county of Rubanda district.
Twinomugisha says that the death toll is likely to increase since most of the casualties were in critical condition with broken legs, arms and limbs among others.
