The Chief Magistrates Court in Kabale has today convicted 20 Rwandans over illegal entry into the country.
The judge ordered them to either pay 600,000 shillings or spend 13 months in prison.
Court session that was presided over by his worship Julius Balore learnt that on 24th of July 2018, 22 Rwandans entered into the country illegally without any documents.
According to the resident state attorney, Mr Peter muhendo, on Tuesday the district police commander Rubanda district got information that some Rwandans had boarded a bus from Kisoro District, belonging to Bismarckan coaches registration number UBB582L without documents.
The DPC in that regard directed the Rubanda district traffic officers to intercept the bus.
According to court, the bus was intercepted from mulore town Council, Rubanda district on Tuesday at around 8:30 am and all passengers were checked only to find out that 22 Rwandans had no identification documents.
The arrested included in 22 men and 2 women with very young babies.
In his ruling, Mr. Balore said the Rwandans entered the country illegally, contrary to section 66 cap 1H of the Ugandan constitution.
The court ruled that the 20 Rwandan men pay each 600,000 shillings or face prison for 13 months. The only 2 mothers who had babies were forgiven, and court ruled that they will be repatriated to Rwanda as soon as possible.
