The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Hon Adolf Mwesige has today 12 July 2018 met United Kingdom(UK) Minister of state for Armed Forces Rt Hon M Lancaster at Imperial Resort Hotel Entebbe.
The two ministers discussed National bilateral Defence relationships and regional security issues.
In his welcome remarks Hon Adolf Mwesige commended UK’s support to Uganda especially in ensuring regional peace and security in hitherto violent places like Somalia and within the great lakes region.
“The wish of UPDF is not to stay in Somalia for ever but to ensure that there is a stable Somali government and also train and build a professional Somali national army. By doing this, UPDF would have accomplished its mission in somalia” the minister added.
Hon Mwesige further told the UK minister that there is a great change in Somalia in terms of security compared to how it was before UPDF began its AMISOM operations.
Rt Hon Lancaster applauded UPDF’s role in ensuring regional peace and securing especially in Somalia. He said that UK government is committed to it’s continued support to Uganda in ensuring regional security and bilateral cooperation.
Lancaster was accompanied by UK’s Deputy High commissioner to Uganda Ms Sarah Mann, the Assistant Head of Africa Col Jody Davies and the UK’s Defence attache to Uganda Lt Col Matt among others.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Permanent Secretary Ms Rosette Byengoma, the Chief of Defence Forces(CDF) Gen David Muhozi, the Joint Chief of Staff(JCOS) Maj Gen Joseph Musanyufu among other Chiefs of the UPDF
