The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has urged Rotary Uganda to focus its cause on building and equipping more cancer wards in rural hospitals.
Kadaga made the call while launching the Seventh Rotary Cancer Run slated for Sunday, 26 August 2018. The Speaker urged the general public to participate and support the cause, whose focus is promoting health service delivery.
“I encourage people to take part in this cause because many of the hospitals upcountry are underequipped to handle cancer and many do not have specific wards; I ask Members of Parliament to take part in the run,” she said.
The Rotary District Governor for District 9211, Sharmila Bhatt said that the run is themed “I am running for my friend”.
“I thank Parliament of Uganda for the continuous support towards humanitarian causes especially those initiated by Rotary,” she added.
Bhatt also presented the Speaker with a banner and scarf for the run.
Participants will be expected to pay a registration fee of Ush25,000 which will be used to build and equip the Rotary Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital.
The run is sponsored by Parliament of Uganda and Centenary Bank. Last year, MPs contributed Ush400 million towards the Run.
