Uganda’s President #Museveni will apologise to the Muslim community if it is found out all the Muslims were wrongly rounded up, jailed and tortured on accusations of widespread killings during Gen #Kale #Kayihura’s reign as police chief.
Defence state minister Bright #Rwabirama said during a television show on NBS called #Frontline hosted by Charles #Odongtho that should it be found that Muslims were wrongly targeted, victimised and tortured, the government wi .
Rwabirama who calmly listened to strong arguments from Hajj Hussein Kyanjo, former MP for Makindye West, said the government will take responsibility for failure to protect the Muslim community. He said, government or its head Mr Museveni, will have no option but apologise to the community. Kyanjo said the Muslim community was angry with the government, and especially the security apparatus in Uganda, who always victimize muslims whenever a high profile assassination takes place. #Kyanjo said the situation is made worse by the fact that even courts could not save the victims from their kidnappers on the streets.
In the wake of Gen Kale Kayihura arrest, alongside his henchmen, there is a common belief that people who were always rounded up were always innocent but Gen Kayihura’s men always arrested people without any evidence, who ended up being tortured to admit that they were being involved in the murders.
Former torture victims told the Uganda Human Rights Commission this week that they were tortured by police officers to confess that they knew about the plot to kill or were involved in the killing of deceased Ugandans such as Joan Kagezi, Sheikhs, Hajj Mohammed Kiggundu, and Andrew Felix #Kaweesi.
