The race for the Presidency of one of Uganda’s most successful fotball clubs ever Sports Club Villa the Jogoos is heating up as the 4 year term of incumbent President Ben Emmanuel Misagga Comes to an end having assumed office in 2014.
A number of SC Villa diehards and life members have come up to contest for the position which the incumbent President had previously indicated he was not interested in but turned around to say he needs another term to achieve some of the goals he has not met in the first term.
Among those gunning for for Misagga’s seat is Marketer Denis Mbidde who is a former Vice President at SC Villa under Misagga himself and FUFA Vice President. Mbide has a historical link to the club with his father having been a member of its management and funder as well. He currently runs Prime Media but is seen by many as an outside contender.
Edgar Muhairwe Agaba the former PPDA Boss and a board member of NSSF is one of the contenders for the big chair at SC Villa. Agaba is lawyer and currently heads the National gaming Board of Uganda. He is said to be a staunch supporter of the club from back in the 1980s and is pretty known among the club’s historical circles as well.
Former SC Villa Player turned International agent and businessman Gibby Kalule is also one of the strong contenders for the position having a good amount of support among former players, the technical side of the club and given his connections and finances that among other things he says will bring in new players and trophie as soon as he assumes office.
Bazirengedde Mohammed also another city lawyer and partner at the firm Bazirengedde and Co. Advocates is in contention for the Presidency too. Bazirengedde is a life member of SC Villa and has also served as Vice President to the incumbent President Misagga. Still in his 40s, he still has many years ahead of him to serve the club.
And finally Eng.Ben Immanuel Misagga Muguluma himself who has been the club’s President since 2014 but has been invloved in the club’s activities for a much longer time is back in contention too.
The Engineer and businessman who owns Lusaka commodities has this season missed out on delivering the Azam premier league title for SC Villa having topped the table for some time.
He managed third position in the league which is an improvement although he has only delivered one trophy in his last term which is the Uganda cup in 2015.
Many still see him as the leading contender in this race given his experience, resources and dedication to the club although his handling of the technical side remains questionable.
