On Wednesday, Parliament approved government proposal to tax Mobile Money transactions, social media as well as putting a ban on the importation of old cars.
The approval implies that each person using platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber and Skype among others, will be subjected to a daily levy of shs 200.
With shs200 daily, any Ugandan using social media will have to pay shs 7,3000 annually.
Of Uganda’s 41 million people, 23.6 million are mobile phone subscribers and 17 million use the internet.
