Police in Rukungiri district has arrested two men over alleged murder of a Boda-boda rider.
The suspects are Apollo Kanyeihamba aged 46 and Brian Kiiza of 27 years both residents of Kinyabushisha cell, Kitimba ward Western division Rukungiri municipality.
It’s alleged that on 21st May 2018, the duo assaulted David Nuwagaba, 22 when gambling. He was admitted in Nyakibale hospital and later was referred to Mbarara hospital on 26th May 2018 where he died from last night.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says that when local residents learnt of Nuwagaba’s death, they attempted to lynch the suspects but were rescued by police.
Maate however says that their properties that includes banana plantation were destroyed and house hold properties were burnt.
Maate has condemned the acts of mob justice adding that police has started inquiries, and on evidence the suspects will be aligned in courts law to answer charges accordingly.
