Government has declared three days of National Mourning for the 22 people who died in a bus accident that took place in Kiryandongo district.
Starting today Sunday till Tuesday, flags are to fly at half mast at government buildings.
In a statement by the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda on President Yoweri Museveni’s directive, the government will also contributed shs5 million per accident victim who passed on towards burial arrangements and shs3 million per person who was seriously injured towards treatment.
“Government will contribute Shs5 million to each family that lost their loved ones to assist in burial arrangements and Shs3 million to each of those seriously injured, who are currently undergoing treatment,” reads part of the statement issued by Dr Rugunda.
“While we await a detailed police report, initial investigations point to out over-speeding and vehicles in dangerous mechanical condition as the cause of the accident,” he added.
On Friday night, a Gaaga Bus registration number UAK 562 L traveling from Lira to Kampala was involved in an accident with a cargo lorry registration number UAT 088 J / UAT 321 M and a tractor registration number UAU 872 M.
