A total of 197 veterans are attending a four days training in modern ways of farming at Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyolo in Wakiso District.
While opening the training on wend May 2018, the Minister of State for Defence incharge Veteran Affairs Hon Lt Col (Rtd) Dr. Bright Rwamirama called upon Veterans to take the training seriously.This training opportunity will help you to be productive citizens and expand capacity to generate employment as well as move away from handouts to empowerment. Acquire skills for survival to fight dependency syndrome, The minister said
Hon Rwamirama added that, the key project goals are to ensure that military veterans are paid their terminal benefits and also help them invest in productive enterprises to enable them contribute to peace and social-economic development in Uganda as well as help to reduce the imbalances and tensions between veterans and civilians.
Mr Gideon Badagawa the Executive Director(ED)of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda which funded this training through Wazalendo Sacco, thanked UPDF for restoring peace and stability in the country. He emphasized the main objective of the training as to skill veterans for competitiveness and also help them identify enterprises in which they can practice and invest back home. He pointed out that the Private Sector Foundation cherishes working together and promised more funding as long as they were working together for common goals and objectives. He implored the veterans to work together as a team.
Mr Tweyambe Fransciso, the acting Manager Research Institute said the Institute covers 19 acres and that its main objective is to provide knowledge that is consumed by everyone.
The opening of the training was also attended by Lt Col Jack Mugerwa, who represented WASSACO Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brig Simon Ocan.
