Five people died in an accident in Kiryandongo last night.
The incident happened at Chepelwo Trading Centre in Kibanda North, Kiryandongo District last evening at about 2100 hours.
An eye witness said a commuter taxi, registration number UAY 648/R (Toyota Hiase) rammed into a trailer registration number UAP 370/L of SSD-437D.
The trailer had reportedly broken down.
Three people died on spot and two later in the hospital. Several others were injured.
The dead have been identified as Sunde Fredrick,31, a resident of Kakungulu village in Kawempe Division Kampala, Adepo Joseph, 43, an employee of National Forestry Authority (NFA) and a resident of Namawojolo in Mukono District, Ojoko Tommy, 44, a resident of Kawoko Matunde Subcounty in Kiryandongo, and one Ilario aged 50 from Kigoma 1 village in Kiryandongo District while another body remained unidentified.
The injured are Auma Vicky aged 19, a resident of Kisura Village, Naomi Parish, Mutunde /County in Kiryandongo District, Waswa Ronald, 29, the taxi driver, a resident of Mutungo Zone in Kampala. Others are Opio Patrick, 40, from Dokolo District and Asisi Benson, 30, from Makasa in Arua District.
Investigation into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
