Last month, Bank of Uganda introduced an automated Clearing House system which among others enables cheques to be cleared within one day, supporting electronic payments where salaries fall.
Due to technical glitches attributed to the new automated system, employees’ salaries were delayed leading to a public outcry from the affected parties.
Most salary earners in different organizations get their monthly payments by 26th of every month but this time round they had to wait for over a week as several banks fail to remit their wages on time.
However, according to William Sekabembe, the DFCU Executive Director, all the backlogs that were pending had since been cleared by Wednesday morning thus enabling clients to access their monies.
Robinah Mukasa, the communications manager of Barclays Bank said the delayed payments of salaries had been raised and that it was an issue affecting all banks.
