So far these are the best Commonwealth games; Uganda has ever had in years.
The country has won six medals comprising of three gold, one silver and two bronzes.
Here are the five shining stars who have made it happen;
1.Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei
At the moment, Cheptegei is the talk of town after winning two gold medals in both men’s 5,000m and 10,000m finals.
On top of that after winning the men’s 10,000m , the long distance runner managed to beat the common wealth Games record that was set by Wilberforce Talel of Kenya in 2002, by 25 seconds.
2.Stella Chesang
Chesang is another shining armor after winning a gold medal in women’s 10,000m.
The 21-year old Chesang was in the lead for most of the race at the Carrara Stadium in Australia on Monday to record a time for 31:45.30.
3.Mercyline Chelangat
In the same race with Chesang on Monday, Chelangat won a bronze medal a time of 31:48.41 behind Kenya’s Stacy Ndiwa who was second.
4.Juma Miiro
The youngster on Friday morning won bronze medal after losing his semifinal bout to India’s Amit Panghal in the 46-49kgs fly weight on a unanimous points decision.
The promising boxer has been staging impressive performances hence making him reach that far.
5.Solomon Mutai
Solomon Mutai has also made Ugandans proud after winning a silver medal in the men’s marathon at Commonwealth games in Australia.
Mutai took silver in two hours, 19 minutes and 2 seconds, behind Michael Shelly of Australia who retained his title in 2:16:46. The 25-year-old Ugandan improved on his 4th place at the last Commonwealth games in Glasgow.
