Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei is one man who made the Uganda national anthem be sang for a cause.
The whole world including other athletes who went to Gold coast Commonwealth games in Australia but have not yet earned a medal witnessed the athlete being respected for a cause, none other than the gold medal.
This proved to be a symbol to many who are still fighting on to earn such respect. These include the boxers from the Uganda national boxing team the bombers, more long distance runners, swimmers, fencing cycling and many more, who still have a chance to fight on up to the dying spot moment to earn the respect.
The boxers include SSimbwa Reagan who managed to win Nigeria’s Lukmon Lawal by 4-1, and Musa Bwogi who won Marven Clair 2-3 as well as many others.
SSimbwa Reagan qualified for the quarter finals where he expects to fight so hard in order to enter the medal bracket.
Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel, the National Council of Sports (NCS) assistant General Secretary said that Cheptegei’s Gold was a wake up call for others who still have games to meet and make sure they keep the Uganda flag up.
Here he thanked Cheptegei for the good run and putting Uganda on the map of the countries that have at least got some medals.
