Doctors under their umbrella body the Uganda Medical Association have expressed frustration over the way the ministry of health handled the Congo Crimean hemorrhagic fever which allegedly broke out in the parts of the cattle areas including Nakaseke district.
Addressing journalists today at Mulago Guesthouse in Kampala, Dr. Mukuzi Muhereza the secretary general of UMA said the one confirmed case should act as the antenna of the country for the ministry of health to react instead of guising that there are no outbreaks.
Mukuzi argued the ministry of health to employ the one health approach by getting the environmentalists,veterinaries and other stakeholders to discus the way to go about the epidemic.
He added that the best way to respond to the epidemic is to get to its reservoir, educate the communities and mainly protect the health workers that are responding to this epidemic.
According to Muhereza, this is not the first time the epidemic is heard of in the cattle corridors and the first one came from Kiboga then Luweero in Kalagala also Butuntumula.
Meanwhile the state minister for health hon. Sarah Opendi has lashed out at the Uganda medical association officials for misleading Ugandans saying its not true that the ministry is concealing the epidemic outbreak.
Opendi who spoke to the media at the ministry of health insisted that its not true that there is an outbreak of the said epidemic and that she is saddened by the UMA secretary general who said they are trying to conceal the outbreak.
Opendi argued the UMA officials to work with the ministry to improve the health of Ugandans because many doctors are employed by the ministry.
