President Yoweri Museveni, who is the mediator in the South Sudan crisis, has received a delegation of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) led by the South Sudan Minister for Defense and Veterans’ Affairs, Hon. Kuol Manyang Juuk and the Minister for Petroleum and Mining, Hon. Ezekiel Lul who called on him last evening at State House, Entebbe.
President Museveni and his South Sudan guests, after careful discussions and deliberations on the efforts to re-unite the SPLM, signed a document to re-affirm the implementation of the Arusha Agreement of 2015 regarding the re-unification process of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
According to the signed document, a meeting with the National Liberation Council of South Sudan will take place in South Sudan’s capital of Juba at a date to be communicated and that President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and the guarantors, will provide security for those who need it.
In July this year, various SLPLM factions, under the auspices of President Yoweri Museveni, signed a declaration at State House, Entebbe, to operationalize the Arusha Agreement on the re-unification of the SPLM.
On 21st January 2015, 3 factions of the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) signed an Agreement in the Tanzanian northern City of Arusha with the aim of re-uniting SPLM.
The 2015 Arusha Intra-SPLM Dialogue, was held under the auspices of the Tanzanian ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), chaired by the former CCM Vice-Chairman, Dr. John Samuel Malecela and facilitated by the CCM Secretary General, Mr. Abdulrahman Kinana.
