A gun (SAR: UG PSO 320097305712) belonging to Eagle Eye Security Company was reportedly stolen last night from a security guard. The security guard identified as Onenchan Godfrey was attacked by unknown thugs, chloroformed ,tied up and storage containers belonging to Modesty Associates Limited broken into.
The intensified motorised patrols during night hours made the thugs suspicious hence aborting their mission. The vigilant officers on suspecting unusual movements in the areas of St. Anne Zone, the police decided to pursue the thugs who took off. On carrying out double security checks it was found out that the security guard’s gun was stolen.
The unconscious guard was rushed to Benco Clinic Kaboowa in critical condition as the rest of the team began on the hunt for his gun. An all-out effort by the area police and two sniffer dogs from Canine Department led to recovery of the stolen firearm found dumped 600m away from the spot where it was reportedly stolen together with the cloth soaked in chloroform. Its believed that the thugs had an intention of returning and picking up the gun.
Items stolen from the containers haven’t yet been fully identified by the company.
This brings a number of recovered private security organization guns in Kaboowa Area to 12 with the previous one belonging to Ndugare Security Group where a security guard robbed items worth 70million from Aponye Group and later abandoned the gun (UG PSO 92170107459) used in the robbery.
A number of discoveries have been made which indicate that some private security companies deploy single guards which is a very risky security practice and leaves the personnel in a position where they are not able to defend themselves in case of any attack.
These security guards lack adequate supervision from their superiors which leaves gaps for laxity and reduced vigilance levels.
Some companies deploy their security guards without ammunitions (bullets), faulty ammunitions or guns that are faulty. This dupes a client into thinking he is paying for a security service when actually it’s the contrary.
Drunkenness of some private security guard also leaves the premises being guarded vulnerable.
All these are attributed to poor vetting methods by these companies and lack of motivation which demoralises the guards among other reasons.
