Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has accused President Yoweri Museveni of ‘stealing’ his ideas.
Lukwago says initially, the idea of reducing taxi operators’ monthly levy was his but he was so surprised that the president stole it from him.
He says in 2012 he presented to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) a comprehensive bill for an ordinance aiming at reducing the shs120,000 monthly levy to shs70,000 but to his dismay, some authority officials labeled him a saboteur and populist which later led to a botched impeachment process against him.
Lukwago’s accusations comes at a backdrop after Museveni opted to reduce the taxi operators monthly levy to shs60,000.
He wrote on his Facebook page;
That he convened a crisis meeting with Cabinet Ministers and Taxi operators over the controversial 120,000/= monthly levy, which they have reportedly slashed to 60,000/=. He seems to be oblivious of his machinations that frustrated my policy measures and legislative process in regard to the taxi industry and mass public transport in Kampala in general. When I presented to the Authority a comprehensive Bill for an Ordinance, with a reasonable monthly levy of Ug.x 70,000/= way back in 2012, I was labelled a saboteur and populist and they eventually engineered a botched impeachment process. You can now see the Ssabagabe assuming the role of the Lord Mayor and presiding over KCCA matters. Banana Republic…..!!!
